The final painting completed by the artist at his studio in Hutton, Scotland in 2004, is a painting of a storm. The work depicts unsettled conditions and suggests a once fine garden wrecked by the hostile climate. The artist spent a lot of time cultivating a beautiful garden only to see it wrecked annually by the storms that rage in Northern Europe in October and November. In the year in question, a nearby weather station recorded winds of 100 mph (160 km/h)

La tempête a inspiré le dernier tableau de l'artiste dans son atelier à Hutton, Ecosse en 2004 - L'oeuvre dépeint des conditions instables et suggère un joli jardin d'autrefois détruit par un climat hostile. L'artiste a passé beaucoup de temps à cultiver un beau jardin finalement le voir ravagé chaque année par les tempêtes qui font rage en Europe du Nord en octobre et novembre. Cette année-là une station météorologique voisine a enregistré des vents de 160 km/h.
